The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a 700-hour basic law enforcement academy starting August 18.

The academy will meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-10:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Persons who graduate from the 700-hour academy will graduate with a class “A” peace officer license, PPCT defensive tactics certification, taser certification, OC/pepper spray certification, first responder certification, NHTSA SFST certification, court security training, less lethal munitions certification and 120-hour jail officer training.

Cost for the academy is $4,000. Veteran’s benefits, financial aid and college credit hours are available for those who qualify.
