Hannibal Missouri native and graduate of Hannibal High Schoo, Sheriff Jimmy Shinn attended Quincy University and Hannibal Lagrange College. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Administration of Justice. Sheriff Shinn is a graduate of DEA Narcotics Investigation School, the Advanced Narcotics Investigation School, and the National Sheriff’s Institute Training. He is a member of FBI National Academy 213th session.
Sheriff Shinn began his law enforcement career in 1989 with the Hannibal Police Department. He is a former narcotics officer with the Northeast Missouri (NEMO) Narcotics Task Force and served as Director of Operations of the Task Force from 1998 until 2001. From 2001 until becoming sheriff in 2008, he served as Chief Deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff John Waldschlager. Sheriff Shinn is currently on his third term as sheriff in Marion County.
