The Four States’ most wanted finally is in custody. Wanted by – and multiple times eluding – authorities in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, the Newton County Sheriff’s Department captured Doug Alexius, 40, of Galena, Kan., Tuesday morning.

“He’s put more officers at risk during pursuits. He’s always in a stolen vehicle or a stolen motorcycle, and he just doesn’t care. He’s a pure example of an outlaw and a thug. He preys on helpless and steals from them and makes drugs.”

A Cherokee County deputy stopped Alexius in a stolen vehicle in late October. A manhunt ensued after he fled on foot into a wooded area near Galena. Lawmen from several jurisdictions were unable to contain him.

Most recently, Joplin police received information that Alexius was in a house in the 200 block of Mineral Avenue. A perimeter was set up around the home as the Joplin SWAT team was called in, but Alexius again was not found.

Alexius is held with no bond in the Newton County Jail.
