Former St. Charles County Sheriff Evan G. “Corky” Thebeau passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the age of 72.
Thebeau began his law enforcement career with the St. Charles City Police Department. On January 1, 1969 he went with newly elected Sheriff Robert A. Koester to the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department as a watch commander. In January 1973 Thebeau was promoted to the rank of Major and served as the Chief of Detectives. On March 2, 1976, Sheriff Robert A. Koester unexpectedly passed away. Thebeau was appointed Sheriff until the general election on November 2, 1976.
Thebeau was a graduate of the FBI National Academy’s 93rd Session in June 1973, Federal Narcotics Officers School, and numerous other training courses with the Missouri State Highway Patrol Academy, University of Missouri and Florissant Valley Community College.
Thebeau was the recipient of numerous awards and commendations including one for an extensive narcotics investigation that he and six detectives concluded in 1975 resulting in 65 arrests. Thebeau was also a member of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis and gave over 300 presentations to schools and community groups.

Interment: St. Charles Memorial Gardens Thursday, May 19, 2016
