After deliberating in a closed session Monday morning, the Christian County Commission tapped former Sheriff Dwight McNiel to be the county’s interim sheriff, ending a two-week process that began when then-Sheriff Joey Kyle resigned and pleaded guilty to embezzlement and aiding a fraud scheme. On Thursday, the commission will swear in McNiel, who defeated Buff Lamb in the 1984 Republican primary for sheriff. McNiel will serve until a new sheriff is elected in an Aug. 4 special election.
