The Missouri Sheriffs’ Association (MSA) believes that law enforcement should be a defender of victims’ rights. The MSA Crime Victims Unit (CVU) exists to be an advocate for victims as they process through the criminal justice system. It is important to us that individuals are treated kindly and with respect in every contact they have during this process. We are here to assist victims by aiding law enforcement to connect them with caring resources in the community. From their first encounter with law enforcement, and through every stage of the criminal justice process, we strive to make experience as positive as possible.

The MSA CVU follows all standards set forth in the Missouri Crime Victim Services Unit MoCVSU Standards and Code of Ethics. To this end all victims are treated respectfully and with the utmost confidentiality. As part of the intake process, victims are informed of each individual right and are given access to our policies for working within each county. Our Advocates are required to review the terms of Confidentiality, and the victim is asked to sign such document.

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.”  – ELEANOR ROOSEVELT (1901 – 1962)
