Two Boone County jailers were given Detention Officer of the Year awards after saving the life of an inmate in October at the Boone County Jail.
Sgt. Austin Kidwell and Officer Alicia Koetting were on duty when a 45-year-old male detainee collapsed, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department’s news release. Both Kidwell and Koetting began CPR until they were able to regain the man’s pulse.
Boone County Sheriff Dwayne Carey described Kidwell and Koetting as “outstanding officers who performed in an exemplary and truly professional manner in a very stressful situation.”
The inmate was returned to the jail after spending several days in the intensive care unit at a Columbia hospital.
The officers were honored by the Missouri Sheriff’s Association during a ceremony in Osage Beach, Missouri.
